About the emi calculator

This EMI calculator works out the monthly instalment, total interest and total payment for a home loan, car loan, personal loan or any loan repaid in equal monthly instalments. It uses the standard reducing-balance formula, so the numbers match what lenders use for fixed-rate loans.

Enter the loan amount, the annual interest rate and the tenure, either with the sliders or by typing. The donut chart shows how much of your total payment is principal and how much is interest, and the amortisation table below breaks every instalment into principal and interest.

It is useful for comparing loan offers, checking affordability before you borrow and seeing how a longer tenure lowers the EMI but raises the interest you pay. For tracking loans and budgets in an app, see the apps below.

EMI Calculator FAQ

How is EMI calculated?

EMI = P x r x (1 + r)^n / ((1 + r)^n - 1), where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate divided by 12 and by 100) and n is the number of monthly instalments. This is the standard reducing-balance method: interest each month is charged on the balance still owed.

What does the amortisation table show?

For every month it shows how much of the EMI goes to interest and how much repays the principal, and the balance left. Early instalments are mostly interest; later ones are mostly principal. You can switch between a yearly summary and the full monthly schedule.

Will my bank's EMI match exactly?

It should be very close if your loan uses a fixed rate and monthly reducing balance. Banks may round the EMI, charge processing fees or insurance, or change a floating rate, so check the sanction letter for the exact figures.

Can I use it for a home, car or personal loan?

Yes. The formula is the same for any loan repaid in equal monthly instalments. Enter the amount, the annual interest rate and the tenure in years or months.

Is my loan information saved or sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is stored or uploaded.
